Rent an authentic old Rømø house with thatched roof located on beautiful natural grounds with sea views.
The house consists of a small entrance hall, from which there is access to a small toilet with bath and a small bedroom on the ground floor with 2 beds. From the entrance hall there is access to kitchen and living room. There is panoramic views over the Wadden Sea and Rømø causeway.
The sunrise over the Wadden Sea can be enjoyed every day, if the weather gods are kindly disposed.
The house's kitchen has dishwasher, induction cooktop, refrigerator with freezer, air fryer, convection oven, extractor hood. The living room is furnished with lovely cigar-brown leather sofas, coffee table and beautiful wooden armchairs with sheepskin. The dining table in the living room is a beautiful old long table with accompanying bench and chairs for a total of 6 people. The house is heated with a heat pump on the ground floor and electric radiators in the bedroom, toilet and bedroom on the 1st floor. NB: Access to the 1st floor is via a somewhat steep staircase. Therefore not recommended if you have severe mobility difficulties.
The 1st floor consists of a rest room with 2 single beds. There is a gable window with sea views. From the rest room there is access to a bedroom with double bed.
Outside you can enjoy lovely garden furniture on beautiful natural grounds/lawn. There is ample opportunity to use the adjacent field for ball games, kite flying etc.
The house has been recently renovated but was built in 1702. It is an old sailor's cottage, which on Rømø is characterized by the number of chimneys. In houses with one chimney lived sailors in the 1700s. Two chimneys housed captains' mates and 3 chimneys housed Captains. In this way one showed one's status in the 1700s on Rømø. The house belongs to the neighboring captain's estate, which today is called Hattesgaard. Hattesgaard today houses a cozy Antique Cafe and where 5 days a week coffee, tea, hot chocolate and between 35 and 45 different kinds of luxury cakes are served.
The house, which is called Mines Minde, is named after an old maid who, after having served 25 years at the Captain's Estate (Hattesgaard) in 1910 bought the property, which at that time was German. She served around the island every day for 50 pfennig until her death in 1940.
The house is today a true little Wadden Sea pearl located on natural grounds surrounded by grass, forest and fields. There is a fantastic wide sea view over the Wadden Sea and beautiful light through the many windows.
From Tuesday to Saturday Cafe Hattesgaard is open from 11:00 to 17:00, during this time there is activity at Hattesgaard and you should expect increased activity from visiting guests and cars in the parking lot and field by the house. The cafe is closed Sunday and Monday. Renters of the house live in the front row for the best coffee and the best cakes in Sønderjylland. The cafe is closed for holidays from 25 Oct. 2025 to early January 2026.
West of the house lies an untouched protected nature area owned by Hattesgaard. In the summer half of the year Galloway cattle roam freely in nature. The cattle maintain the nature and are an important part of nature management in the area and on Rømø in general. The animals do nothing. You are welcome here to explore the area, including bunkers and trenches. There is abundant wildlife including roe deer, red deer, birds of prey etc. However, you should not go into the area on days when there is hunting. (This is signposted).
There is approx. 4 km to Lakolk Beach. The beach is Northern Europe's largest public beach. You can drive directly down to the beach by car. In addition to the nature close to the house, Rømø offers plenty of varied nature, beach, restaurants and cafes as well as good shopping opportunities.
There is 1.87 meters to the ceiling in the house, under the wooden beams it is lower and in the annex there is 2 meters.
NB: Installation of brought Whirlpools / Swimming pools is NOT permitted.
NB: Note that the staircase to the 1st floor is somewhat steep and therefore not suitable for people with severe mobility difficulties.
